ABOUT CMSK

There isn't any homework due on Monday but the practice test paper. The answer key is attached here. Do check if there is any question and I will clarify any doubts during the first half an hour in the next class. Please also tell the class to finish the two revision exercises on referencing, whose answer keys will be up on OLE after 6pm today.

It would be great if you can let me have a look of your revised scope – other than the three to four main section headings, give more detailed outline / subheadings under each main section heading. In other words, your report outline. Write the report outline on a piece of paper so I can give feedback on it.

E.g.

2.1 The significance of …

2.1.1 The origin of …

2.1.2 The ….of …

2.1.3 The … of …

2.2 The current situation ….

2.2.1 The ….

2.2.2 The …

2.2.3 …

2.3 Recommendations …

2.3.1 Recommendations to …

2.3.2 Recommendations to …

Just think of your report as some study similar to this scenario:

Imagine your boss intends to design a new application programme and asks you to propose features that should be included. This is your purpose – coming up with a proposal with suggestions on what to incorporate in the new programme. Think: what does the NHB asks you to do? That will be your purpose.

S/he makes this request for some reasons – perhaps the company's sales growth is stagnating, or the company wants to raise its profile, or the company finds there seems to be a demand in the market, thus the need for a new product. Similarly, the NHB aims to raise the awareness of X for some reasons – what are they? This is your background.

Since you cannot design the new programme out of a vacuum, you need to do some research to find out what will make your programme saleable. What do you need to investigate? Information like what the market is using, the current trend(s), the likes and dislikes as well as the needs of the market, etc. will be essential for you to think of relevant features of the programme that cater to the taste and needs of the market. That is, your proposed features will be based on what you find out about the market. Coming back to your report, before you can give any recommendation to achieve the two objectives, what do you need to know so that your recommendations cater to the needs of the people the NHB hopes to promote X to? So that the recommendations really work? That will be 2.1 and 2.2.
